Ideally we are all living a balanced life moving smoothly through each day enjoying all aspects of life and donating a little time to each aspect of who we are…
Much like the tires on a bike- when out of balance- it makes the ride rough, lots of work and less mileage in more time.
When our body is out of balance, it too gives us little clues to STOP and regroup. These signs manifest as symptoms ranging anywhere from fatigue, brain fog, headaches, body aches, allergies, flushed face, chronic coldness, inability to lose/gain weight….I could go on.
Unfortunately, generally speaking, we are part of a society that “can’t be bothered”.
BUT… if you can imagine. (Analogy) A person comes to your door and knocks. You think, “I can’t be bothered” and decide not to answer the door. So they choose to ring the door bell because they want your attention.
Again, you decide you “can’t be bothered”. Then, they pick up a rock and throw it in your window, break the glass and you finally get up off the couch and say “WHAT?!?”. Well, we often do this in our lives. We have a body ache, a headache, a little indigestion or a stuffy nose. We can’t sleep or we get occasional skin rashes/breakouts. We decide, we “can’t be bothered” and take something to mask the symptom. Eventually, sometimes even 30 years later, we are at the doctors office and now we have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic fatigue, chronic allergies, joint deterioration or cancer. That is our rock in the window. So, be proactive and take care of your health today. You are worth it!
I like to start with what I call, basic balancing treatments. These are simple, inexpensive, at home remedies that you can do on a daily basis to maintain and promote optimal wellness.
Then, I like to focus on your system as a whole to understand WHY YOU are presenting with YOUR symptom. Your symptom is unique to you, so your treatment is unique to you too!
While I am treating your current symptom, I like to investigate your past and family medical history to gain a deeper understanding of you; how your immune system responds to the world we live in (Miasm), how you interact with the world you live in (Temperament) and your genes (Constitution). These three aspects in addition to past life experiences affect your health today. All this information gives me a better understanding of YOU! Then, I will often focus on those particular organ systems that may need some support. From there we treat the current symptom by palliating the issue, searching for the root cause to then retrain the body how to function optimally so you are NOT on medication or supplementation for the rest of your life. We then continue to emphasize the importance of practicing your basic balancing treatments daily.
One of the most famous Naturopaths from the 1800′s, Samuel Hahnemann (mostly known for his Homeopathy- one of many treatment modality that Naturopaths use today) said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
Naturopathic Medicine has been a part of our culture for thousands of years. Embrace the world that has supported us for so long.
Food is medicine! Hippocrates (460-377 B.C.) said, “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” For an old guy, he was right on the money! Our world has provided us with everything we need to live a full, healthy and happy life.
